In this course we’ll read three of Shakespeare’s comedies, all believed to have been written between 1599 and 1604. There are elements that unite these three plays – disguises, heartache, severe moral tests, more or less happy endings – but we will approach them with no fixed agenda or methodology, apart from the aim to discover whatever we can about them through close reading and probing conversation. I will provide written questions to serve as starting points for our class discussions.
