The Power of Playwriting

The Writer’s Studio at the University of Chicago Graham School is a creative home to writers of all genres and ambitions. We feature open-enrollment, noncredit writing classes designed to inspire and challenge, alongside manuscript consultations, free community events, and more. Whether you are new to creative writing, polishing your professional prose, or honing your craft, we hope that you will find the right course for you.

About our community

Writer’s Studio faculty and students create powerful work in and out of the classroom. We are proud of the literary and creative accomplishments of students, alumni, and instructors.

To strengthen relationships and writing, we have held regular events on and off campus, including open mics and readings, as well as our free annual Business of Writing Seminar and programs at Chicago literary institutions such as Printers Row Lit Fest. Above all, we endeavor to help our students live the lives that they envision within a vibrant, supportive community, whether those visions include publishing, performing or simply pushing the bounds of their creative expression.

Your writing matters. Get to work on it.
