The Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies is the home of a community of adult learners and seeks to extend the University’s academic values to as wide an audience as possible. Throughout our history we have provided innovative, strategic learning solutions to individuals as well as to private, not-for-profit, and public sector organizations in the liberal arts, business, and professional disciplines.
We offer credit and noncredit learning opportunities in a variety of subjects, from more traditional disciplines such as literature and philosophy, to business-oriented courses, to master’s degrees. Our courses are conveniently located at the University of Chicago Gleacher Center in downtown Chicago, and are primarily in the evening and on weekends, to fit the schedule of working adults. We also offer online courses, for those not located in Chicago, or who wish to study from home.
Who can be a Graham School student?
Our students boast a breadth and depth of experience in a variety of professions, but they all share a love of learning and an understanding of the personal and professional value of an education. Students typically have a bachelor’s degree, but exceptions can be made for those with applicable experience.
Why choose the Graham School?
Many students come here to gain workplace skills in order to advance their careers or change them completely. They take certificate or degree programs, or their employer works with us to offset tuition or create custom corporate seminars and courses.
Others come to us to complete a master’s degree or to prepare for graduate school, and almost all of our students are also managing a full-time job. We work with you to ensure your success in our evening and weekend programs.
The benefits of the Graham School include:
- A wide offering of courses for personal enrichment and professional advancement
- A flexible schedule for working students
- Online programs for a national audience

Our Faculty & Instructors
The Graham School employs faculty from a variety of sources. Many University of Chicago professors teach in our degree and certificate programs because they enjoy the challenge a classroom of experience can bring. Our instructors also come from the tops of their respective professions, and can share insights developed after years of working in the field, as well as professional contacts. Above all, our teachers challenge students to ask big questions, and to learn how to think, not what to think.
