James Joyce’s Ulysses 1

In Ulysses, James Joyce composed arguably the modernist novel par excellence. In the course of telling a story, Joyce explores not only the lives of his characters, but also story-telling itself. The novel makes heavy demands on its readers, and, in this course, we will meet those demands together in weekly close reading and discussion. This course welcomes in particular first-time readers of Ulysses.

This course extends over three Quarters: Autumn 2024, Winter 2025, and Spring 2025.
