Imitation: the Sincerest Way to Improve

Cost
595.00

This course was available in the past and may be presented again as part of the Open Enrollment curriculum.

In this class, we'll study a few exemplary pieces of nonfiction and fiction and copy aspects of them: their structure, their elements, their sentence structure. The point is to get inside the work to understand how it's constructed, and to learn by taking on an accomplished writer's rhythms and placements. We'll read and imitate work by Michele Cliff, Sei Shonagon, Alice Walker, Angela Carter, Julia Alvarez, Eduardo Galeano, and others.
