Grow Your Novel

Cost

This course was available in the past and may be presented again as part of the Open Enrollment curriculum.

This class is open to all fiction genres and is designed to assist writers in the early stages of their novel. Students with a few pages and an idea, and students with hundreds of pages are welcome. Through a combination of generative in-class writing exercises, planning/drafting how-tos and craft discussion, as well as workshop, we will build voice and confidence. Along with craft essays, we will read a novel. Topics covered include the purpose of dialogue, sources of tension, setting as it relates to pace, character building, tense, voice and point of view, as well as the publication process. Students should expect to emerge from class with a deeper understanding of their idea, more pages than they started with, and the confidence to move forward.
