This course was available in the past and may be presented again as part of the Open Enrollment curriculum.

This two-quarter sequence studies the Greek text of the Gospel of Mark as a work of literature, examining its engagement with earlier traditions and its rivalry with other Gospels. Careful readers will admire the Gospel's seeming simplicity and revel in its enigmas—bumbling disciples, misdirecting parables, a shocking ending—all while rediscovering its provocative force.

Prerequisite: At least one year of prior study or instruction in Homeric, Attic or koine Greek.
