The historian Livy chronicled the ancient Roman Republic (in 142 books) from his viewpoint at the beginning of the Empire. This class focuses on a turning point in Roman history - the War with Hannibal, an epic struggle between the two ancient superpowers of Rome and Carthage. The invasion of Italy by the great Carthaginian general Hannibal brought Rome to the brink of disaster, but ultimately Rome not only survived, but expanded to dominate the whole Mediterranean region.
