The Basic Program of Liberal Education for Adults is partnering with One Book, Many Conversations for a nation-wide conversation on George Orwell’s 1984 from October 9-15, 2017. Participants from around the country will gather, online and in local groups, to discuss George Orwell's novel 1984. Together we will delve into 1984, a book that raises questions that are at the core of living in a democracy, including the nature of citizenship, the sources of power, and what it takes to be a leader, to be courageous and to love another human being. These themes are broad, common to the human experience, and cross all partisan boundaries.
The Basic Program will be offering an online discussion class on Monday October, 9, 6-8pm CT (7-9pm ET), moderated by Cynthia Rutz, a Basic Program Instructor. The session will be a live, interactive discussion, focused by questions rather than giving answers. Students are expected to read the book before the session. Registration is on the One Book, Many Conversations website. http://www.manyconversations.org
