The Writer’s Studio heads to City Lit Books in Logan Square for our spring Open House/Open Mic with a FREE mini-lecture, faculty performance, and open mic. Writer’s Studio instructor Hannah Gamble will present a craft mini-lecture; Storytelling Bootcamp instructor Stephanie Medlock will be our featured reader/performer; then the mic opens to you for the final hour or more!
Open mic readers are limited to two double-spaced pages in twelve-point, Times New Roman font. When you register for this event, you will have the option to reserve your open-mic spot. Three spots will be held for last-minute participants on the night of. Join the Writer’s Studio community for this signature event to foster your writing, hear the ideas and work of others, and, if you are so inclined, add your voice and stories to the mix.
About the Speakers
Hannah Gamble is a poet, essayist, editor, and educator. Her first book, Your Invitation to a Modest Breakfast, won the National Poetry Series in 2011. You can find her writing on the Poetry Foundation website and in magazines such as The Believer, jubilat, Fanzine, and the American Poetry Review. This July, she will be teaching our Online Writing Group.
Stephanie Wilson Medlock co-founded Indigan Storyteller and helped launch the International Storytelling Festival in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Her novel, The Lives of Things, was optioned by Totem Films. Her work appears in Feathered Flounder, Still Crazy, Persimmon Tree, Tues/Night, and Celebrating Animal Rescue. This August, she will be teaching our Storytelling Bootcamp.
