Exploring the Florentine Renaissance
A Conversation with UChicago Associate Professor Lawrence Rothfield
About the Event
Join us for a conversation with UChicago Associate Professor Lawrence Rothfield on his new book The Measure of Man: Liberty, Virtue, and Beauty in the Florentine Renaissance. Together, we will explore this period of boundless creativity and examine how citizens of the time were driven to reimagine the political and ethical basis of their world.
Lawrence Rothfield is Associate Professor of English and Comparative Literature in the Division of the Humanities at the University of Chicago. His research focuses on the way in which literature, criticism, and other cultural activities are caught up within epistemic and political struggles. He co-founded UChicago’s Cultural Policy Center, which brings together faculty whose research—whether in economics, law, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, political science, public policy, history, art history, or cultural studies—can help inform policies affecting the arts and humanities.
