Online Alumni Panel: How to Leverage Your Certificate in the Workplace

Have you ever wondered the best way to leverage your certificate from the University of Chicago Graham School in the workplace? Join alumni from across many of our certificate programs, including Digital Marketing and Integrated Communications, Editing, Financial Management and Decision-Making, and Project Management, as they discuss strategies and best practices to best utilize their new skills in the workplace. This online panel will help prospective students, current students, and alumni alike begin to prepare for career advancement after the completion of their certificate. Come prepared to network and ask questions!

Panelists

Andrea Hodgman is the associate director of lifelong learning at the University of Chicago in Alumni Relations and Development. She is responsible for Harper Lectures, alumni travel, and online learning for the alumni community. Prior to this role, she worked to overhaul ARD’s internal training program, where she oversaw and coached nineteen trainers. Under her guidance, the program grew from five classes to thirty-five classes, and it now includes a speaker series.

Before she became a Maroon, Andrea was a high school English teacher in Chicago, in Radom, Poland, and in her home state of West Virginia. She earned her master’s degree in secondary education from West Virginia University and her bachelor’s degree in English and writing from West Liberty University. Here at UChicago’s Graham School, she completed certificates in Financial Decision-Making and Project Management, and she is currently in the Digital Marketing and Integrated Communications certificate.

Tyler Hough worked in a number of capacities at the University of Chicago and Loyola University Chicago prior to launching the Jefferson Group, a global strategy consulting firm in 2016, and he has always enjoyed meeting new people and connecting those in his network.

He regularly writes on team leadership and management, process improvement, professional development, and other topics, and you can follow his writing on LinkedIn or Twitter, @TylerLHough. Tyler also leads the #ThatTalkOn webinar series here at the Graham School. He studied at Loyola University Chicago and is currently pursuing his master's degree in education policy at Northwestern University. He is also a graduate of the Graham School’s Project Management Strategy and Financial Decision-Making certificates. Tyler currently works as the individual and corporate giving manager at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School.

Mohammed Khan leads a global team of professionals focusing on global IT, privacy, and digital health audit risks for Baxter International, a fortune 500 healthcare company. Mohammed has spearheaded several initiatives focusing on emerging technological risks, regulatory changes in cybersecurity for connected medical devices, global privacy assessments, digital transformation across the enterprise, and reduction of compliance costs through strategic outsourcing model. Mohammed has a master’s and undergraduate degree in information systems from DePaul University. He later pursued a highly coveted Financial Decision-Making certificate from the University of Chicago. He is a frequent speaker at local, national, and international conferences. He has presented multiple topics focusing on digital health cybersecurity, data privacy, and intellectual property protection. He provides thought leadership to IIA and ISACA—a global association of 140,000 professionals in 180 countries and organization that helps businesses and IT leaders maximize value and manage risks related to information and technology. Mohammed has written many articles for the ISACA Journal and has helped produce several work products in software development lifecycle, privacy programs, and enterprise program management. He continues to be on the key review board of major initiatives led by ISACA, and he recently became a part of a digital healthcare IT advisory team for ISACA.

David McCarthy is a content marketing manager at RevenueWell, whose practice marketing suite automates patient communication workflows. David participated in the Marketing certificate at the Graham School from 2014 through 2016.
