“Before this class, I feel like my “philosophy of editing” was very limited. This class has taught me so much about what it means to be an editor. While my knowledge on the subject is continuing to grow, I think I have a solid idea of what editing means to me and what values I hold with this title. The biggest one for me is the idea that editors work alongside authors (not against them) to make sure the manuscript is the best that it can be. I think this is one of the most important things to keep in mind when editing a piece of writing. I also have learned so much about what an editor does. Not only does an editor fix grammatical and punctual mistakes, but they can also help create a flow or style in a piece of writing when there isn't one. Editing is so intricate and there is so much to learn. However, there are also a lot of really good resources out there for editors no matter what type of editing you're doing.”
