No application is required at any time to register for the Basic Program, Open Program Courses, or Writer's Studio. You may register for one course before applying to a Professional Development Certificate. Please see the step-by-step instructions for registration below.

Instructions for Student Users
Start by entering our student portal.
If you already have an account, find the column “Student Login”
Enter your user name (email) and password.
If you have forgotten Your user name or password, you may use the links to reset those. This requires you to know the email associated with your account.
For Forgotten User Name:
- Click "Forgot User Name"
- Enter your email and click "Continue." You will receive an email with your user name.
For Forgotten Password:
- Click "Forgot Password"
- Enter your user name and click "Continue." You will receive an email with a temporary password.
- Login with your user name and temporary password.
- You will be asked to change your password. Enter the temporary password into the field “Current Password" and create your new password.
- It must contain at least six characters: at least one upper case letter, at least one lower case letter, and at least one numeral.
- The characters @ [\] ^ ` " # $ % & ' ( ) , . : { ; | < = } ~ > ? may not be used in your password.
- Click continue. Your password is now updated.

- Find the course you would like to register for either by viewing upcoming courses on individual program pages, using the course search on this website, or searching for a course directly in the Student Portal.
- Click the section you would like to expand the information. Click "Add to Cart."
- You may either continue to search or checkout. When ready, click "Checkout" in the cart.
- You will be prompted to log in to your account if you are not already.
- Verify your personal information if needed, then click "Continue Checkout."
- Verify your cart and Check the box regarding the registration policy.
- Click "Continue Checkout" again.
- You will be directed to the payment page where you will enter your payment information and click "Pay Now."
- You will be redirected back to the Student Portal.
- You will receive a confirmation and receipt by email.
Register for Basic Program Courses
The Basic Program of Liberal Education for Adults is a rigorous, non-credit liberal arts program that draws on the strong Socratic tradition at the University of Chicago and covers the foundations of Western political and social thought.
Register for Open Program Courses
Course categories include: Arabic language and cultures, arts, classical Greek studies, China studies, history and politics, literature, music, philosophy, and religious studies.
Register for Writer's Studio Courses
The Writer’s Studio at University of Chicago is a creative home to writers of all genres and ambitions. We feature open-enrollment, non-credit writing classes in Chicago designed to inspire and challenge, and offer manuscript consultations and free community events.

With classes taught by seasoned industry professionals in downtown Chicago as well as online, the Graham School offers a variety of certificates for professionals seeking to launch, change, or accelerate their careers.
