The architecture and museums are always inviting, and there are two major league baseball teams here, along with the sparkling shoreline, and famous parks that are bustling with activity all summer long. International students must have a valid visa in order to take part in the Summer Session at the University of Chicago. Student visa documents are issued to admitted students who register for two regular courses or one intensive course, as these students are considered full-time.
International students are required to submit English proficiency test scores as part of their application process. The minimum required score for the TOEFL is 104 overall, with 4 sub scores of 26 each. The minimum required score for the IELTS is an overall score of 7, with sub scores of 7 each.
The English proficiency test requirement may be waived for Summer Session applicants who for two or more years have attended a high school or university, where the primary language of instruction is English.
Competence in English must be demonstrated in order to qualify for University of Chicago Summer Session admission. International applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Our TOEFL and College Board code is 1832.
We require the following English proficiency standards:

7 overall on the IELTS
The English language requirement may be waived for applicants who have studied in full-time status for at least one academic year in the United States, or who for two or more years have attended a high school or university where the primary language of instruction is English and have participated in a phone or Skype interview with the International Studies Coordinator. You may also request an exception to this requirement if you have taken courses in subjects other than English language at a school or university where English is the language of instruction.
